CityLight Pastor Commentary:

When Jesus was accused by the chief priests and elders, “…He answered nothing” (Matt 27:12). When Jesus was questioned directly by Pilate, “…He answered him not one word” (Matt 27:14). Jesus was not concerned with His earthly reputation, or with defending His Name. He was focused only on fulfilling God’s will for His situation. At various times in life, you may find yourself in a position where you feel like you have to defend yourself. Your insides might start burning; you’ll probably be tempted to lash out at your accusers with your tongue, or even your fists. But that might be exactly the response they hope you give them. Sometimes our strongest witness is to remain silent: to be still and know that He is God (Ps 46:10). God is your Protector and Deliverer. Let Him do the heavy lifting. As soon as you stop fighting for yourself, He will step in and fight for you.

Prayer:

“Father, I know You will fight for me! You bring nations to nothing, and turn the plans of the wicked against them. Help me to sit still and stop fighting, so You can come in and fight for me!”
