Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. – Mk. 12:25

The Sadducees came and asked Jesus a hypothetical question. If one woman had seven husbands, all of whom died before her, whose wife would she be in heaven? The Sadducees assumed they knew what life after death looked like. They assumed that our relationships on earth would continue into heaven.  But here is what they failed to understand: when you get to heaven, you won’t be married to your spouse! You will be married to Jesus.

You are the bride of Christ (2 Cor. 11:2, Eph. 5:27, Rev 19:7)! And no matter how much you love your husband or your wife, what Jesus can give you in heaven is so much better than anything you can find in this world.

The average couple spends between 200 and 500 hours over the course of 12 to 18 months planning their wedding.[1] But your earthly wedding isn’t the one that really matters in the end. Have you spent that much time considering what it will be like being married to Jesus? Are you living your life according to the knowledge that you will spend eternity with Him?

When you die, there will be a marriage supper of the Lamb:

“Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” – Rev. 19:7

Are you ready? Have you RSVP’d? Don’t get left out in the cold. Say yes to Jesus now, so that when it’s time to get married, you will meet Him at the altar.

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for marrying me! I cannot wait to spend all of eternity with You. I thank You so much for blessing me while I’m on the earth! I thank You even more for the blessing it will be to be with You in heaven.
