Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.” – Mk. 12:43-44

Jesus sat opposite the treasury and watched “how” the people gave (v 41). Many rich people put in much, but one poor widow gave all that she had. And according to Jesus, the widow, “…put in more than [everyone else]; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood” (vv 43-44).

If you can afford it, it’s not a sacrifice. If it’s easy, it’s not enough! Jesus is not moved by comfortable giving. He is moved by a completely yielded heart. This woman gave everything to God! And Jesus was impressed with nothing less.

God has given you everything. He sent His Only Son – His most prized possession! – to die in your place on the Cross. Will you give Him everything in return? What can you offer Him today that you have never offered Him before?

“There is always more to yield.” – Steffany Gretzinger

Prayer:

Father, I know this passage is more than an offering message. You want my heart: not just the parts I am willing to give You, but the whole thing. Help me to yield to You today, more than ever before, in Jesus’ name.
