Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When either a man or woman consecrates an offering to take the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to the Lord, he shall separate himself from wine and similar drink; he shall drink neither vinegar made from wine nor vinegar made from similar drink; neither shall he drink any grape juice, nor eat fresh grapes or raisins. All the days of his separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, from seed to skin.’ ” – Num 6:2-4
God is not looking for half-commitment. The Nazirite was someone who chose to “separate himself to the Lord” (v 2). Nazirites couldn’t drink wine; and anyone who took the Nazirite vow took that promise so seriously that (s)he would avoid anything and everything having to do with grapes! If God has called you to avoid something, do not entertain anything, or anyone, having anything to do with that behavior. If God has called you to do something, do not entertain anything, or anyone, who will even come close to distracting you!
Go all in. Pursue Jesus with everything you’ve got, and don’t let anyone stand in your way! It’s pleasant to think about getting more from God; but in what ways could you give up more? What would you be willing to give to get closer to Him?
Prayer:
Father, I want to go all-in in my pursuit of You. I will give up anything and everything standing between me, and more of You! Make me more committed than ever, in Jesus’ name.
