Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.” – Mk 12:43-44

Jesus sat opposite the treasury and watched how people gave their offerings; not how much! The spirit behind the gift was far more important than the size of the gift.

When you give a financial offering to God, what is your heart condition? Do you give out of obligation, or out of joy? The Lord loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor 9:7). Jesus promises that if you give from a joyless place, you will find no joy when you reap. But if we give joyfully, we will reap joyfully!

God wants to give all of His children the revelation that when we give to Him, we are performing an act of spiritual surrender. Honoring God with your tithes and offerings means so much more than simply making a donation to your church.

When we give to God, we are proving to Him that He is our first, and last, priority. We are giving Him our whole heart; and that is the most we can ever give!

Prayer:

Father, help me to give to You from a place of perfect peace, and absolute joy. You have blessed me to be a blessing to others. You have poured into me so that I can joyfully pour out on Your creation. Help me to give joyfully!
