CityLight Pastor Commentary:

“And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying, ‘Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?’ But He kept silent and answered nothing” (Mark 14:60-61). As Jesus was being questioned by the Sanhedrin, He knew He would be condemned to death. Yet even when Jesus’ life was on the line, He did not defend Himself. When was the last time you passed up the chance to defend yourself? God can only defend us if we refuse to defend ourselves; otherwise, we’re in the way while He’s trying to work on our behalf. Refuse to defend yourself. Give your frustration and your offense up to God, and let Him work it out for you.  “In return for my love they are my accusers, but I give myself to prayer” (Ps 109:4).

Prayer:

“Father, I refuse to defend myself! I know that in order for You to work on my behalf, I have to get out of the way. I give all my emotional hurt, my pain, and any past offenses over to You; and I know You take them from me willingly in Jesus’ Name. Thank You!”
