Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now it happened, when the congregation had gathered against Moses and Aaron, that they turned toward the tabernacle of meeting; and suddenly the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared. Then Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of meeting. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.” And they fell on their faces. – Num. 16:42-45
Israel just wouldn’t stop complaining. They were unhappy they were stuck in the wilderness (which was their own fault by the way)! So they took it out on their leader. They repeatedly attacked Moses.[1] But every single time they challenged him, God rose to his defense.
In today’s verses, the entire nation of Israel surrounded Moses, seeking to depose him. But God immediately showed up. His glory covered the tabernacle of meeting (v 42). And a plague ran through Moses’ opponents that killed 14,700 people (v 49).
Your enemies aren’t people; they are demonic forces.[2] But God will defend you the same way He did Moses! Lead with courage, knowing that no resistance from the enemy can hold you back from fulfilling God’s purpose for your life. Never waste time defending yourself; because God is Your Defender, and He will fight for you!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for defending me. I am weak; but You are strong. I am timid; but You are bold! I am so grateful for the way You step in and defend me from everyone who would ever seek me harm, in Jesus’ name.
