Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah – Ps. 62:8

What a beautiful picture of prayer. Trust in God at all times. Pour out your heart before Him! God is a refuge for us. When you make a decision to trust God (because He is worthy of your trust!), you will have the confidence to pour out your heart before Him. You will hold back nothing and invite Him to see you for who you really are! And as you disclose how you really feel and what you really need to God, He will be a refuge to you. He will strengthen you and protect you. He will help you to recover! He will teach you to trust Him even more, and then the whole cycle will repeat again:

Trust Him => Pour Out Your Heart => He Proves He Is Trustworthy

Prayer is not homework. It is not just another item on your to-do list! It is a beautiful acknowledgment that God can be trusted. There should be joy attached to your prayers, because God’s Word guarantees that when you pour out your heart before Him, He will be a refuge for you. He will prove that He can be trusted with your heart. He will never take what you bring to Him and fail to use it wisely.

Pour out your heart to God. You are heard, you are seen, and you are known. And when everyone else turns their back on you, He will be a refuge when you need Him most.

Prayer:

Father, I trust You! Thank You for proving You are worthy of my trust. I know that I can pour out my heart to You – safely and securely – because You are a refuge to me like none other, in Jesus’ name!
