Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” But [Jesus] turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village. – Lk 9:54-56

The disciples entered a village to prepare for Jesus’ arrival. Everything was ready to; but when Jesus arrived, “…[the village] did not receive Him” (v 53). The disciples assumed Jesus would punish the rebellious people. “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” they asked (v 54). But Jesus would have none of it.

Jesus didn’t come to ruin your life; He came to save it! He’s not here to spoil your fun; He’s here to give you supernatural joy! Whatever measure of happiness and success you’ve experienced without Him; you are going to experience so much more with Him. Jesus is for you, and never against you. Are you ready to trust Him with all your heart?

Prayer:

Father, thank You that Your heart is always for me. I want to love You with my whole heart, because You have already chosen to love me with all of Yours! I am forever grateful for the life You’ve given me, in Jesus’ name!
