Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them. – Deut 28:13

To “heed” means to listen and obey: to not only hear what is being said, but to do what is being requested.

God wants to bless you. His desire is to “establish you” (v 9)! He wants to “grant you plenty of goods” (v 11). His goal is to “open to you His good treasure…and to bless all the work of your hand” (v 12)! Are you getting the picture? He wants to make you the “head and not the tail” (v 13).

But He can only bless you if you heed. Knowing the word of God is only half the battle. Doing the word of God is what will make you blessed.

Prayer:

Father, I want to be a doer of Your word. I want to hear what You have to say; and I also want to do what You call me to do! Help me to heed, in Jesus’ name.
