Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them. – Deut 28:14

Deuteronomy 28 tells us how to be blessed as God’s people: listen to His voice and do what He says. In other words, stay focused! But how can we stay focused in a world filled with distractions?

Keep God’s word in the center of your vision at all times. Do not “turn aside” from His word, to the right or the left (v 14). Don’t let anyone distract you. Don’t let anything else steal your attention or your energy.

Staying focused on God’s word was the absolute key to Jesus’ ministry. When God gave Him a plan, He listened…no matter what:

Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem… – Lk 9:51

Jesus made God’s word an absolute priority; and so should we! You become what you behold. As you keep God’s word at the center of your life at all times, you will become more like Him!

Prayer:

Father, keep me focused on Your word and Your will, in Jesus’ name! I want to be blessed, and I want to be obedient, in Jesus’ name.
