Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
When I have brought them to the land flowing with milk and honey, of which I swore to their fathers, and they have eaten and filled themselves and grown fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them; and they will provoke Me and break My covenant. – Deut. 31:20

Before he died, Moses made an unfortunate prediction about the people of Israel. Once God had brought them into the Promised Land, they would forget Him. When they had “eaten and filled themselves and grown fat,” they would forget about God and serve idols. They would break His beautiful covenant because they had forgotten who had brought them into the Promised Land.

It’s easy to cling to God when your life is a disaster. But the temptation to forsake Him is strongest when things are going well. The Israelites would pat themselves on the back and choose to believe that they had found their “land flowing with milk and honey” without God! And we often do the same thing. God delivers us from an absolute mess and brings us into victory! And then we forget about Him and take credit for everything He has done.

When things are going well, you need God more and not less. Cling to Him like you did when you were lost and afraid! Because the truth is, you need Him now more than ever before.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your protection and provision! Help me to always remember that You are the God who delivers and saves. My life is blessed because of You, not because of me. And I don’t ever want to forget it, in Jesus’ name.
