Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” – Lk 13:4-5

If something bad happens to you, it doesn’t mean you are a bad person. It doesn’t mean you’ve messed up, and “the universe” is trying to get you back. If two people get sick, and one dies but one gets better, it doesn’t mean that the person who failed to recover “deserved” it! When bad things happen, it is an indication that we live in a fallen world. We live in a world decaying around us, full of sickness and disease. We are all headed for the same fate: death! And the only answer is Jesus.

All of us are equally sinful. All of us are equally destined for destruction. All of us are born to die! But when we find Jesus, He gives us life. He gives us hope! He gives us righteousness, resurrection, and newness of life.

If you would only give your life to Jesus, you would see what it means to be forgiven. You would see what it means to be free! You would see what it means to be loved by God, once and for all.

Prayer:

Father, I repent of ever thinking I don’t need You because things are going well. I give my life to You. I’m making a fresh commitment to You today, in Jesus’ name! Thank You for loving me, and help me to love You with all my heart.
