Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. – Jn 15:7

Here we are given the key to having our prayers answered. If (1) we abide in Jesus, and (2) His words abide in us, all our desires will be fulfilled! Whatever we pray for will be given into our hand.

This verse does not give us permission to ask for whatever we want, and expect God to deliver. Jesus’ words encourage us to start a personal relationship with Him, and know His word and His will like the back of our hands, so that we know exactly what to pray for.

When we seek Jesus and pray for His desires – not our own – our requests will be done for us. Notice that God performs what we desire when it lines up with His will. That means we never have to work for His desires ourselves! If you’re working overtime to make something happen, ask yourself: is this God’s desire, or my own?

As we allow ourselves to be consumed with the love of Jesus Christ, God will take care of all our needs:

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. – Matt 6:33

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your confidence in me. Help me to pray according to Your will. Help me to internalize Your word, so that I always know what to pray for!
