CityLight Pastor Commentary:
“And John bore witness, saying, ‘I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him’” (John 1:32). The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus Christ and remained upon Him. The Holy Spirit never ascended and left Jesus alone. Guess what? He will never ascend and leave us – His disciples – alone either! Many times, we speak of the Holy Spirit as if He is some ethereal presence who comes and goes as He pleases, without any consistency. In truth, the Holy Spirit is perfectly consistent: ever since He descended on the disciples, He has never ascended to leave us alone. The Holy Spirit lives in every man and woman who relies on Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit is always present; it’s up to us if we’re going to fully experience His Presence by opening ourselves up to Him and being receptive.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that Your Holy Spirit is always present! Thank You that He lives inside of us, to communicate Your will to us and to help us walk out the paths You have laid before us! Help us to always take note of His presence!
