Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

Furthermore I tell you that the Lord will build you a house. – 1 Chron 17:10

David offered to build God a permanent house. He said to the prophet Nathan, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under tent curtains” (1 Chron 17:1). David simply could not understand why nobody had ever offered to build God a permanent temple of worship. He had such a heart to honor God, that his desires exceeded the intentions of all the rulers before him.

Up until David, God had to instruct every ruler how to honor Him. Yet David so desired to honor God that he dreamt up ways to honor God on his own! He had such a heart to glorify God’s Holy Name that he took his eyes off himself, and set them completely on his Father.

Because David offered to build God’s house, God promised to build David one. When we genuinely seek to build God’s kingdom, He will supernaturally increase the favor on our lives. When we seek to establish Him, He will establish us, without our even having to ask!

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. – Matt 6:33

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your faithfulness! Make me like David. I want glorifying Your name to become my all-consuming desire. Help me to put Your kingdom before my own. Give me a heart to selflessly serve You!
