Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him and said: “Is it not because the Lord has anointed you commander over His inheritance?” – 1 Sam 10:1

Samuel anointed Saul’s head with oil so that he could become a great king. The oil was symbolic of the anointing to pursue God’s calling. It was a prophetic demonstration that, from that day forward, God’s Holy Spirit would provide Saul with everything he needed to fulfill God’s call on his life.

God does not call us to greatness, and then leave us hanging. He anoints us by filling us with His Holy Spirit so we’re empowered to do everything He calls us to do!

We no longer live under the Law, but under grace. We are no longer held to an impossible standard, without the power to perform God’s will. We are freed from sin by the blood of Jesus Christ, and empowered to become more like Him as God’s Holy Spirit works in and through us! When we give our lives to Jesus, we are anointed to become royalty, just like Saul!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your Holy Spirit! I know He strengthens me to fulfill the call  You put on my life. Help me to always be sensitive to Your leadings. Help me to say yes to whatever You call me to do!
