Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

Malchijah the son of Rechab, leader of the district of Beth Haccerem, repaired the Refuse Gate; he built it and hung its doors with its bolts and bars. – Neh 3:14

The wall at Jerusalem needed to be repaired. A fortified wall was essential to re-establish Biblical worship, and expand God’s kingdom according to heaven’s design.

All the people of Israel banded together to repair the wall at Jerusalem. Each participant had his or her own profession; yet all banded together and put personal interests on hold when God’s work needed to get done.

As New Testament Christians, the way we “build walls” is through prayer. Prayer keeps the enemy at bay, and establishes the borders God wants to establish. None of us is a professional intercessor. Yet we must all put our own interests aside, and band together to defend and expand God’s territory through prayer!

Prayer:

Father, remind me to pray. When I don’t pray, the enemy can run amok in Your territory; but when I pray with other men & women of God, there is nothing we cannot accomplish!
