Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. – Col 3:12-13

He who is forgiven much loves much. God loves you; and when you respond to His love by saying yes to Jesus, Christ-like behavior will flow out of you. To be Christ-like means to forgive – not only, but especially when the other person doesn’t deserve forgiveness.

Forgiveness is the gateway to perfect peace. If you forgive people who have mistreated and abused you, you will experience the love of God on a daily basis. But if you hold grudges, you are blocking the flow of God’s love in your life. He loves you so you can love others. He forgave you so you can forgive others!

Forgiveness isn’t just for them; it’s also for you. Don’t let bitterness and resentment steal one more minute of your life. Take a moment today to give someone the greatest gift you can give: forgive them, with no strings attached. Love them, even though they don’t deserve it. God did it for you, so you can do it for them.

Prayer:

Father, give me the strength to forgive people in my life! Your word doesn’t say we should forgive; but that we must forgive. Help me to forgive others with a smile on my face, and joy in my heart, in Jesus’ name!
