Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for He shall receive me. Selah. – Ps. 49:15
Death comes for us all. Thanks Adam and Eve! It is “appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Heb. 9:27). You will die! But if you have Jesus, you will rise again. God will redeem your soul from the power of the grave! The power of death is great, but the power of the Cross is so much greater.
Our entire faith hinges on the Resurrection. The Resurrection proved that Jesus is who He says He is. Do you remember what He told His disciples?
Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.” – Lk. 18:31-33
The Resurrection means you can trust Jesus. He will do what He promised to do! Things will go the way He said they would go. And the Resurrection also means that if you follow Him on earth, you will follow Him into heaven.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” – Jn. 14:1-4
You don’t have to fear death anymore. Because where death was strong, Jesus is stronger.
Prayer:
Father, I rebuke the fear of death in my life in Jesus’ name! I will fear no one and nothing but you. Thank You that because I fear You, I don’t have to fear anything else, in Jesus’ name.
