Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs. – Lk 11:8
God knows the things you need before you ever ask Him. But you still have to ask! I know too many Christians who fail to pray because they remain convinced that, since God knows everything, He will just make their breakthrough happen. But God desires partnership with you! He wants to co-labor with you to make your destiny come to pass.
Jesus calls us to be persistent in prayer. His promise is that when we ask, it will be given; when we seek, we will find; and when we knock, it will be opened to us (Lk 11:9). But we still have to ask, seek, and knock! If we sit on our hands and refuse (or forget) to pray, nothing will happen!
The purpose of persistence is two-fold. First, persistence demonstrates to God that you believe in His promises. Continuing to pray for that same breakthrough proves to God that you will stand on His word, even when you don’t see what you expect with your eyes!
Second, persistence breaks down the enemy’s resistance to your blessing. Satan seeks to block every blessing God sends your way. As you continue to knock on the door in prayer, the enemy will eventually give up his resistance. What was formerly locked from you will be unlocked to you in the name of Jesus!
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. – Lk 11:10
Father, make me persistent in my prayers. Help me never to give up: to keep asking, no matter what the odds, and no matter what the outlook!
