Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God… – Deut 28:2

We shouldn’t have to chase down God’s blessings. Scripture actually says that when we are obedient, God’s blessings will chase us!! To overtake means to “catch up to,” (Strong’s #5381), the same way you would jog to catch up to a friend who is walking faster than you. The picture God wants us to have is this: when our walk is right, His blessings will find their way to us! We don’t need to focus on becoming blessed. We simply need to focus on living for Jesus, and blessings will find us!

Obedience doesn’t mean you have to get every little thing right. New Covenant obedience simply means trusting in Jesus, the only Man who could do everything right! We tend to think of obedience as a negative, and let it define what we should run from. I like to think of obedience as a positive, and let it define whom I will walk towards!

Walk towards Jesus. Keep your eyes on the Cross. As you seek Him, God’s blessings will overtake you.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life… – Ps 23:6

Prayer:

Father, help me to get my walk right. Help me to seek Jesus first. I know that when I do, Your blessings will chase me down, in Jesus’ name!
